The easy guide to update the andengine.jar

Hello Community,

from time to time you'll update the andengine.jar and things in your project will start showing quite some errors. :o Don't worry...

Usually the reason for this is:
  1. a class was moved
  2. a class/method has been changed/renamed

:arrow: Fixing '1.' is the easiest. All you need to do is "Optimize imports..."(CTRL + SHIFT + O) on your src folder :!:

:arrow: Fixing '2.' just takes a little more time. Methods/Classes (usually) don't disappear, their names/parameters tend to be adjusted. Have a look at similar named Methods and Classes (Eclipse AutoCompletion is your friend!!) and also you shouldn't miss the the List of Changes :!:.
If everything fails, don't hesitate to drop a topic here in the forums. :)

for #2, I will 'diff" the example source code that was changed when you updated the.jar

That's been the best way so far (for me)

What about changing andengine.jar? I want to add stuff like "createHexagonBody" into andengine.jar so I would have less code in my activities. Is there any simple way or do we need to compile again from source and is there a tutorial how to do that?

Hello! I got a question =(


i updated andengine with last one found in repository... now i miss Texture class + addShapeModifier function in Sprite class.

I did what explained above but no luck =(

any ideas?

Texture is now known as BitmapTextureAtlas. Also, TextureRegionFactory is also renamed to
BitmapTextureAtlasTextureRegionFactory ans so on, everywhere where Texture word was written.

Yesterday updated to latest version of engine and faced same problems - was trying to apply pixel-perfect collision library from there: http://www.andengine.org/forums/features/new-feature-pixel-perfect-collision-detection-t3457.html , but it couldn't run because of such renames.

Also, I'm experiencing a big loss of performance, but maybe it's my own problems due to last code changes.
