Getting started with AndEngine ...

Hello Community,

as you have opened this topic, you are probably interested in getting started with AndEngine - good choice !

You might wonder where to download a ready-to-go sample project
What you are looking for are probably the official AndEngine-Examples. The place to go for the most recent Sourcecode for that project is here:

http://code.google.com/p/andengineexamples/source/checkout

While I strongly encourage you to check out that project (so you can easily pull changes from the repository of the Examples and see if there is something new or what has changed), you don't need to do so. (Mercurial Eclipse Plugin)

At lease you should browse the Sourcecode and get a quick overview on the examples - you can do that here:

http://code.google.com/p/andengineexamples/source/browse/#hg/src/org/anddev/andengine/examples

In the case you do not want to check out the Examples or even build AndEngine yourself, but you want to start a new project with AndEngine from scratch, I created the following Screencast to show how this is done within 5 minutes:

Hi! Your engine seems amazing thanks! One thing which may enhance though, you should say or write somewhere to add the required permissions in order for the app to work. It took me an hour to figure it out

I have follow the video, but cannot find myself access to the jar to import as a lib. Is there another place to find it? Or Was i supposed to sign up for something?

Not a dumb question, but I should add the link to the jar to the above post

Right-Click and choose sth like:"Save as..."

Depends on what you use If you use the Box2D Physics Extension to AndEngine, yes. Otherwise (currently!) only collision of not-rotated, unscaled rectangles.

This framework is very exciting, congrats Nicolas on making something so useful and needed.

I was wondering: is there an overview of the architecture somewhere? I am going through the example apps, and would find it much easier to follow if I had a quick sheet to refer to, and a basic explanation of the intended usage for the various classes.

I'm taking notes as I progress, if there isn't anything in place, if/when I get to the point where I am comfortable with Andengine, maybe I can upload them somewhere as a wiki?
