[Under Development] Diego - 2D Side scroll game

Postby Mathew » Mon Nov 07, 2011 3:01 pm

Hello, I would like to ask every interested person to test my game, and if you can provide some feedback about your ideas, performance and so on - I would be REALLY grateful! Game is under development.

Description: Its 'mario style' game, but will be much more advanced (current level is just for testing purposes, without any difficulty etc) Also graphic is really bad, but will be changed in future, currently its enough for development stage.

Left to do:

- monsters
- more obstacles
- more objects making game more advanced
- performance upgrade
- etc

This is old version, new one is now much better.

- increased game play speed twice (previously was too slow)
- new great tile set (thanks to IFL, great work)

(in game it looks better, quality of the screenshot is quite poor)

Now I can build much more complex levels, when monsters and new obstacles will be fully developed - game may be really cool. Also those tiles might be really easy stylized to winter/desert and so on places, so I guess there will be a loooot of levels ;)

If someone would like see current version here it is Click

Also first post updated.

It's quite stable. The sound from the block hitting the ground shouldn't happen unless the player is close. There's a bug with the pause menu - If you press the reset button, the camera goes back to the beginning of the level. Pressing the back or menu buttons after that fixes it though. As for controls, if you jump and hold before trying to use the pad, you can't use the pad until you release. You might try having the jumping be controllable... like if you hold down longer, the character goes higher. Good job on the gameplay and menus. It's all fairly smooth.

Yeap, there is something like this, but only for one side, I was to lazy and it was just for test.

Thats right, because I couldn't find proper way to restart game yet, it was just experimental, and as we can see doesn't work :)

Thanks for review.

Development is going really well, lately done:

- restarting game
- monsters
- level loader
- quick loading new level, when previous is completed
- couple fixes

Hey, I just took some time to test out your game and it's looking really good so far, im sure you already know where some of the improvements may be (gameplay graphics, but your main menu is amazing so far ;) )

im not sure if this would be a bug or if its intentaionl, but the character can do an off platform jump (walk off the edge, then jump while in mid air to extend the distance the character can travel horizontally)

also as mentioned, the block should only sound when the character is near, i was wondering what the sound was when i was first learning the controls

another minor note, if this game is played on a tablet (i tested on asus transformer), the analog stick is really big and would therefore be difficult to maneuver the character, if something could be done to resize the analog based on device i think this would integrate into a wider platform, keep us posted with updates, i'd like to give more feedback whenever

What do you think about option where player may select his own preferred size of the controller?

Hey, so I took a few screenshots of the gameplay, the idea of a resizable analog is good but just make sure to test it out on devices of different sizes

just an additional helpful note for you if you dont have a tablet, when you develop for honeycomb tablets you want to be careful about the black bar on the bottom of the screen, when a honeycomb device resolution is 1280x800 the bar is included in the height (so usable screen height is actually someting like 780 or so) while on a non honeycomb device there is no black bar so 480x800 is 480x800

also forgot to mention, im not sure if the black bars on the side of the gameplay is intentional or if you wanted full screen, it took a while for me to figure out how to get it full screen on all devices

You mean black bars on the right and left side of the gameplay?

It looks like I had to screw up something, because I noticed the same (black bars on the left and right side in gameplay activity on Xperia, while menu looks ok - full filed whole screen)
