College Project.

Postby eoinosulli » Wed Apr 11, 2012 3:19 pm

A class mate and I have been given a project for college.
The Project spec is :
"Interactive College Map App, This project should enable student, staff and visitors of IT carlow to download and use an app that will display a relevant up to date map of the college and give the user relevant information with respect to their current visit to the college."

Its going to be on android & we have already installed eclipse helios and the AndEngine. We were wondering if this would be all that is necessary to implement this project. We are only new to android development and are a small bit lost. It will be a 2D interactive map. Will we need to install any other plugin to draw the map?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why not use Google Maps as the base, then draw whatever you need on top of it.
If all you need is a map with few buttons and text, Google Maps is your best option, it already has a lot of stuff built-in.

I'm guessing it has to be an interactive map of the interior of the college? So Goggle maps wouldn't really suffice, a bit more info on what you wish to achieve would be good, I doubt you actually need andEngine to achieve what the project outlines.

We're hoping to achieve:

* An interactive college map which includes exterior and interior locations
* The map will be 2d
* Upon clicking on a building or room an information screen will appear with a scrolling list of images and information about the building/room.
* There will also be a server side app that will be used by the administrator to edit information (of building, rooms, events) and layout of the interactive map. (It'll be on a computer not mobile)

There will also be an events side to the app in which a button (which is always available) will bring you to an events calendar....from there you can select dates and then select events. The screen for an event will be very similar to building/room information pages. There will be an option to locate events (buildings and rooms too) on the main map. (So you'll click a button and the map will zoom in on the desired location)
