A Play! - The free console for your pocket!

Postby Nicolas Gramlich » Mon May 06, 2013 2:13 am

Hello Community,

A Play is a console for your pocket. One device acts as the server/display, where up to 6 other devices connect to it via WiFi and act as controllers.

Currently there are 10 games, but there will be more too come! (Soooo many ideas!!! )

The feedback I'm looking for boils down to:
  1. Setup too complex
  2. Instructions confusing
  3. Ping too bad
  4. Not enough games
  5. Not enough games free :exclamation: Especially this point
  6. Games too expensive
  7. Connection losses
  8. Ideas for other monetization strategies
  9. etc...

:money: Also I'm thinking of putting out an SDK so others (i.e. you) can make more games and sell them through A Play! :money:

:information: Please send feedback to feedback@aplay-gaming.com :check:

Best Regards,
Nicolas

Fun (and quite strange) idea !
So in order to play you'll need one android device as server and 1 or more other devices as controler ? it's perhaps hard to have so many devices ! Why can't we have a play screen on the controler to play with just two devices ?
The controlers are linked to the game type ? Only buttons ; touch pad controller ; etc ?
New release : A-Kart Paperboy -Wanna help ? Click !

My previous games : Candy RubiX MatchUp - War Of Wizards - Memory Temple

That's actually a good idea. The controllers are though to be completely dumb, with the server telling the device what to display. Theoretically it would be possible even right now (with the current protocol) for the server to tell the controllers what to render. Unfortunately the latency is not (yet) good enough for that though to feel good. :? I'm planning to support WiFI and Bluetooth simultaneously, so maybe that will get feasible.

What do you think abou the games and their "availability". The whole pricing model is the biggest :?: right now. :|

Looks interesting! I am interested in it! I have 1 to 2 more iOS games to release this month and I am back to Android development for a few months!

How are you doing this? Sending the desired position every frame from server to client? If the ping is too high, there are better solutions : )

Hey !
try it out thx for the apk :)
One tablet as server / Two phone as controlers (with my wife uh)
very smooth. Wifi detected very easy.

Game Play of the free game is really simple but fun. The technical concept is awesome, and work perfectly. The game prices are not expensive at all.

The choice of games should be done with a first controller (one connected all the time) so we don't have to return on tablet to switch. I think you should first barcode the controller then choose the games.

Also one another point : when you buy a game it should be on first position to prevent from sliding to much :)
Sliding is perhaps not the best solution btw.

To conclude : really clever idea and solid work ! but little to much geeky perhaps ! :)

How's this part coming? I'm definitely interested in developing for this platform.

P.S. I'm gonna test it this coming week end. Has anyone tested this on 1-PC(bluestacks) + 2 android phones? Might be cool.(Right now, it''s easier to connect my PC to 32+inch monitors than any android device we have)
